Error Lookup - Windows error dictionary
Review by on
Windows has this annoying habit of displaying error messages without a clear explanation. Most of the time, it displays an error code, like we are supposed to know what it means of the top of our heads. If you want to know more about the errors you encounter, Error Lookup can help you. You can think of this application as a dictionary for errors. Whenever you encounter an error, you only need to type in the code and the application will tell you what's wrong.

Error Lookup is offered completely free of charge and you can use it on Windows XP or any later version. It comes in a small package and it can be installed in a matter of seconds. Also, there are no special requirements you need to meet.

As previously mentioned, you only need to type in a number, on the application's compact user interface and a description of the error will appear instantly, on the same window. You will also find the error's corresponding hex code, facility and its severity. The best part is that everything is done offline. The application comes with its own database, so you can look up an error, even if your Internet connection is down.

Error Lookup's database is organized into several modules. When you insert a code, you may find several descriptions, for different errors, related to the operating system's user, kernel, to DirectX or it may be related to a blue screen of death and so on. You can enable or disable individual modules in the application's general settings menu if you want to.

You can look up mostly any Windows error. The application comes with a large database, which is organized into several modules. Also, Error Lookup is lightweight, easy to install and it is absolutely free.

There are no obvious drawbacks to speak of.

Error Lookup is an essential tool for any Windows user who has ever encountered an error.
